The Walk

bridge over lily pond
We had been told that the best time to see the water lilies in flower was mid June to mid July and so we set off one warm, summer afternoon in anticipation of a good display to photograph. As we turned the corner into the Bosherston car park we noticed the nearby tea rooms and promised ourselves a cream tea on our return, which we would surely deserve after our healthy walk and hard work...Humph!

Laden with gear we began to walk unhurriedly across the narrow bridge of the Western Arm. A few pictures later we carried on along the woodland path that was over hung with blackberry blossom. Electric blue damsel flies hovered ahead of us like personal guides. The still, glassy pond was dappled with rafts of lilies. These wonderful water flowers, pure white with their egg yolk yellow centres, are in complete contrast to the deep dark water and harmony of greens that surround them.

We paused a while on the grass covered outcrop at the tip of the arm which was arrayed with daisies, birds foot trefoil and buttercups. From here we had a splendid view over the first pond and the dense deciduous woodland either side. We could also see the sand dunes and the stone beacon that sat high above Central Arm Bridge. We chose to go on to the sea, encouraged by the beautiful blue sky with it's chiffon clouds.
