Bosherston Lily Ponds
It is always a joy to wander around the lily covered ponds at Bosherston in Pembrokeshire. They are part of the Stackpole Estate and are nestled south of the Landsker border between the villages of Stackpole and Bosherston, a short distance from the coast. The ponds take their name from William Bosher who held the local manor during the 13th century. Today the Estate is owned by the National Trust, and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part National Nature Reserve.
The area is made up of three large, long narrow ponds, and has wonderful walks for the curious naturalist or those just seeking a peaceful stroll. There are a number of routes to choose from starting from various car parks at different points of the estate. These include the Western and Central Arms, and the walk up the Eastern Arm past the Stackpole Centre, the Eight Arch Bridge and on to The Old Manor, and Courtyard Flats. Crossing Grassy Bridge leads you to the bright creamy sands of Broad Haven South, and the circular walk that brings you back down the edge of the woods on the south side.
